A tragedy has rocked Irpinia: Concita Perna , 41, originally from Lioni , died during childbirth on the night between Wednesday and Thursday at the Malzoni Research Hospital in Avellino . The baby was born alive and is doing well, but the joy of a new life has been overshadowed by a tragedy that will now be investigated by the judiciary.
Following the family's complaint, the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation and ordered the seizure of the body and medical records . An autopsy will be performed in the next few hours to determine the cause of death. Concita was initially admitted to Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi Hospital , but her condition—already critical due to severe dyspnea—required her transfer to a private clinic in Avellino.
There, due to worsening respiratory conditions, doctors decided to perform an emergency cesarean section , successfully delivering a live fetus. In an official statement, the Malzoni Hospital's medical directors expressed their condolences and deepest sympathy to the family: "The patient's already serious condition prevented her from surviving, despite the prompt and diligent efforts of the medical staff in attempting to save mother and child."
The affair takes on even more painful overtones because a year ago, Concita's sister, Teresa, died after a heart transplant , leaving the family devastated by a new loss. The investigation opened by the Prosecutor's Office aims to shed light on the incident and establish any medical or procedural responsibilities in the handling of the case.

This is a very tragic case and it makes us reflect on how healthcare can be problematic. I hope the investigation will clarify the facts and that the families will get justice for what happened to Concita.
