The explosion, which occurred around 10 this morning, required immediate and dramatic rescue operations.

Two of the injured were rushed to Cardarelli Hospital in Naples with very serious injuries; doctors reserved the prognosis for one of them, openly describing his life as being in danger. The third worker, whose condition appeared less critical, was first treated on site and then transferred to Ospedale del Mare for further evaluation.

Italy, the silent massacre continues: the terrifying data

THEaccident The Pomigliano d'Arco disaster is not an isolated event, but adds to the dramatic and ongoing war bulletin that Italy is recording on the workplace safety front.

Recent data from INAIL and the Safety Observatories leave little room for optimism. During 2024, total accident reports increased, albeit slightly, but the most alarming aspect concerns the number of fatalities: in 2024 alone, there were 1.090 fatal accidents in Italy, a 4,7% increase over the previous year. The emergency is particularly acute in high-risk sectors such as construction and, due to dynamics such as today's explosion, the services and manufacturing sectors.

Campania, like other regions, continues to pay a heavy price for this "silent massacre." Every time a worker is injured or killed, the need to remain vigilant is evident. The judiciary and inspectorates must now fully investigate the culprits behind this morning's explosion, a painful reminder of the urgent need to invest heavily in prevention and rigorous inspections.

What happened at Pomigliano is truly tragic; it's unbelievable that such serious accidents still occur at work. Safety should be the priority, but the data shows that's not the case. Let's hope something is done.
