Hit and run on the crosswalk while driving to work: hit-and-run driver identified and reported

Castel Volturno – He had left home at dawn to go to work, but never reached his destination. Marco Ioime, 44, married with a daughter, was struck and killed Monday morning while crossing the Domiziana highway at a pedestrian crossing equipped with a speed bump.

The car that hit him head-on did not stop to provide assistance: the driver continued on his way, leaving the victim dying on the asphalt.

The man was rescued and rushed to Pineta Grande Hospital, but the injuries sustained in the crash proved fatal: Ioime died a few hours later.

The State Police investigation began immediately. Officers from the Castel Volturno Police Station collected witness statements and acquired footage from surveillance cameras in the area. The footage showed the car hitting the 44-year-old and then speeding away without stopping.

The vehicle, police discovered, had been rented from a local company. From there, investigators identified the driver, who was located a few hours later. The man was charged with vehicular homicide and failure to provide assistance. The car, meanwhile, has been seized.

The tragic event has deeply shocked the community of Castel Volturno. Marco Ioime was well-known and respected: a worker and a family man who died on a stretch of road already marked as dangerous. His passing has left relatives, friends, and colleagues feeling pain and anger, and they are now demanding justice.
