Naples, October 16, 2025 – Another scam targeting an elderly woman, but this time the scam ended with an arrest. The State Police arrested a 19-year-old in Scampia. Aversa, accused of aggravated fraud, and his accomplice, a 45-year-old, was reported for the same crime.
The two had just staged the classic "fake accident" scam. The young man had shown up at the home of an elderly woman in Aprilia, pretending to need to collect compensation for an alleged accident involving the victim's daughter. The woman, frightened and convinced by the story, had handed over numerous gold jewelry, worth over €10.000.
A few hours later, however, the plan fell apart. During a routine patrol on Via Tancredi Galimberti, officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue noticed two people in a car acting suspiciously. When searched, the 19-year-old was found with a purse full of jewelry. When questioned, he was unable to explain the origin of the items.
Subsequent investigations allowed us to connect the loot to the scam that had just been committed in ApriliaThe prompt intervention of the police allowed not only the arrest of the young man, but also the return of the valuables to their rightful owner.
A positive ending, in a story that reaffirms the need to maintain high levels of vigilance against one of the most insidious and widespread scams targeting the elderly.
