The number of defendants in the trial into the massive residence permit scam has been reduced by almost half. Twenty-one of the forty-four people implicated in the "click day" investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Napoli They admitted their responsibilities and chose to settle the matter, offering approximately 300 euros in restitution, in addition to the two million already seized during the precautionary measures carried out last June.
The investigation, triggered by a complaint filed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, uncovered a scheme of false hiring designed to regularize the presence of non-EU citizens in Italy.

Overall, over 40 cases have been examined by the Flying Squad and the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office. Those who have decided to settle include lawyers, municipal police officers, CAF (Tax Assistance Center) owners, police officers, and about fifteen business owners. Nineteen defendants remain who will face the expedited trial procedure and four who have opted for the ordinary trial.
Meanwhile, investigators have seized an apartment in Sorrento traceable to one of the lawyers involved, believed to have been bought with the proceeds of the illicit activity.
