Villa Literno - An illegal landfill, a veritable environmental disaster hidden among the vegetation, was discovered and dismantled by the Carabinieri of the local station. Three people have been charged with abandonment and illegal waste dumping.

Those targeted by the Benemerita are a 63-year-old woman from Caserta and two men, a 60-year-old from Santa Maria Capua Vetere and a 54-year-old from Giugliano in Campania. All three own plots of land where, as confirmed by the police, the illegal landfill was set up.

The operation began yesterday afternoon, following a report received by the command.

At the scene, the Carabinieri found more than just a few bags of garbage. Before their eyes lay a vast, abandoned area, where piles of waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous, had piled up, partially camouflaged by the natural vegetation.

During their inspections, the military documented the presence of a large open-air landfill. The land was filled with a disturbing mix of waste: plastic and ferrous materials, construction debris, paint containers, and worn tires. A cocktail of pollutants that poses a concrete threat to the ecosystem and public health.

Law enforcement responded immediately. The entire area, now considered a source of danger, was placed under criminal seizure by order of the Judicial Authority. The Carabinieri are now continuing their investigation to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident and determine any additional responsibilities or the possible existence of an illegal waste disposal ring.

It's incredible how an illegal landfill could be tolerated for so long in an area like Villa Literno. Waste should never be abandoned, and the authorities must do more to prevent such situations.
