A blood-curdling war bulletin: 40 people lost their lives in road accidents between Friday, October 17, and Sunday, October 19, a 21,2% increase compared to the 33 victims of the previous weekend.
This was reported by ASAPS, the Association of Supporters and Friends of the Highway Police, which calls this "the highest number of deaths this autumn, comparable to the worst late summer numbers." A silent massacre that affects everyone: the youngest victim was just 14, the oldest 90.
The deaths included 19 motorists, 12 motorcyclists, 5 pedestrians, 3 cyclists, and a person on a three-wheeler.

Eighteen fatal accidents on state and provincial roads, and a chilling statistic: 16 victims were under the age of 35. Italy mourns a wounded country, but Campania has recorded one of the heaviest tolls, with 5 deaths that have affected the heart of the region.
Nine victims were in Emilia-Romagna, seven in Veneto, three each in Lombardy, Liguria, and Marche; two in Sardinia; and one each in Piedmont, Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, and Sicily. Yet, in the South, the roads seem cursed: here, between the hairpin bends of the Salerno area and the busy thoroughfares of Naples, death has knocked on the doors of humble families, taking not only lives, but dreams and futures.
