A double raid by the Guardia di Finanza led to the seizure of approximately 1.500 kilos of fish caught and traded fraudulently between Mugnano and the Naples coast. The operations, conducted between November 6th and 7th by the Naples Naval Operations Department, are part of targeted controls to protect consumer health and combat irregular food trade.
In the fish market of MugnanoThe Guardia di Finanza discovered 1.200 kilos of untraceable fish, potentially dangerous for human consumption. Another 300 kilos of mussels were seized at sea when a patrol boat intercepted a fishing vessel using a turbo-blower just meters from the coast, a prohibited practice.
Those responsible were given heavy fines: €1.500 each for the legal representatives of the companies involved and €6.000 for the owner of the fishing vessel, who also had points deducted from his license and his equipment seized.
The mussels, still alive, were thrown back into the sea, while the products seized on land—valued at approximately €15—were donated to the Naples Zoo after veterinary inspections for animal feed. The Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) has announced intensified checks throughout the supply chain ahead of the Christmas holidays, a period when demand for seafood is at its peak.

It's incredible that there are still people attempting to commit fraud in such an important sector as fishing. I hope these controls continue to protect consumer health and guarantee the quality of the food we eat.
