Naples – A fiery evening yesterday in the heart of the vibrant Vomero neighborhood, where a deployment of police disrupted the nightlife with a massive sweep of checks.

The operation, coordinated by the Police Headquarters of Naples, saw the deployment of officers from the Vomero, Arenella and Bagnoli police stations, military personnel from the Guardia di Finanza, patrols of the Local Police and inspectors of the ASL NA1 Centro.

The raid focused on the hot spots for nightlife: the San Martino area, Via Giordano, Via Falcone, Via Scarlatti, and Piazza Medaglie d'Oro and Piazza Vanvitelli. The final toll was heavy: 45 people were identified, five of whom were already known to law enforcement, 13 vehicles were checked, and 42 traffic violations were reported.

But the firm hand of law enforcement also struck down on businesses. Six establishments were put under scrutiny. Fines totaling €3.000 were imposed: one business was caught without the mandatory HACCP food safety certification, while another was even forced to take down its shutters due to poor hygiene and sanitation conditions.

The most dramatic episode, however, involves an 18-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to the judicial press. The scene unfolds on Via Girolamo Santacroce. Officers at the Vomero police station notice a scooter with two young men aboard, behaving suspiciously.

The chase on Via Girolamo Santacroce: he had burglary tools

As the police approached, the passenger fled into the night, evading capture. The driver, an 18-year-old, didn't stand by and took a desperate step: to elude the police, he rammed the vehicle into the officers.

After a brief but heated struggle, the young man was stopped and arrested for resisting arrest and assaulting a public officer. But the surprises didn't end there. In the scooter's underseat compartment, the police discovered an arsenal of lockpicks and burglary tools. Subsequent investigations revealed the final, crucial piece of the puzzle: the vehicle he was riding was stolen.

The scooter was thus returned to its rightful owner, while the young man was also arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of keys or lock picks and receiving stolen goods. A night of partying turned into a one-way ticket to prison for him.
