Mercato San Severino – The Salerno DIA (Anti-Mafia Investigation Department) has seized assets worth approximately €2,5 million from a Mercato San Severino businessman believed to be linked to the Desiderio Camorra clan, active in the Irno Valley.

The operation, conducted in Mercato San Severino and Roccapiemonte, was ordered by the Review and Preventive Measures Section of the Court of Salerno, upon a joint proposal from the Public Prosecutor and the Director of the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate.

The investigation and the danger profile

The investigation, conducted by the Salerno Division of the Anti-Corruption Department (DIA), allowed the reconstruction of the entrepreneur's social dangerousness profile, both generic (from 2009 to 2021) and qualified (from 2015 to 2017). The Court of Salerno recognized the existence of both profiles, confirming the legitimacy of the measure.

The seizure involves a factory, two business complexes operating in the sector of equipment set-up and rental for trade fairs and events, a sole proprietorship operating in the catering sector, shares in a pension fund, and postal savings bonds.

The value and impact of kidnapping

The total value of the assets seized from the entrepreneur's control is estimated at approximately €2,5 million. This represents a significant blow to the economic system of the Desiderio clan, which for years has exploited commercial activities to launder money and consolidate its power in the area. The operation demonstrates the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the judiciary to combat organized crime.

It's important that the authorities continue to work against the Camorra, but I wonder if this seizure is enough to truly halt the Desiderio clan's influence. Many businesses could still be at risk.
