NAPLES – Five new families moved into the San Nicola a Nilo Social Condominium today, the co-housing project launched by the Municipality in 2022 to provide decent housing for the city's most vulnerable families. The apartments handed over mark a significant milestone, as the beneficiaries include people who for over forty years have lived in ASL Napoli 1 facilities in Frullone, spaces never intended for residential use and which, over time, have become a symbol of unsustainable precariousness.

At Palazzo San Giacomo, they speak of a result resulting from joint efforts between the Municipality, the Prefecture, and the Health Authority. Collaboration with Prefect Michele di Bari, the Department of Architecture at Federico II University, and the European Rock the Block project has allowed for the consolidation of an innovative social model that goes beyond simply providing a roof: the goal is to build communities, support families toward full independence, and integrate co-housing into the new urban policies envisioned by the Urban Planning Scheme (PUC).

An important, yet still incomplete, journey. This is what Rosario Andreozzi, Naples city councilor (Avs), emphasizes, urging us not to let our guard down. For him, this mandate represents "only a first step" and requires finding stable solutions for all families living in ASL facilities. In his speech, he forcefully emphasizes the inalienable nature of the right to housing, denouncing a society that tends to crush the most vulnerable and a government that, he argues, prefers repressive logic to finding solutions.
