Naples - In Barra, a 24-year-old man was arrested by the Carabinieri for violating the house arrest order they had just imposed on him.
Antonio Gargiulo, already known to law enforcement, was caught riding a scooter without a helmet, a violation that alone would have resulted in an administrative fine. But the situation became complicated when officers recognized the young man as the man who had been under house arrest for only three days.
During a routine checkpoint, the Carabinieri noticed the young man riding his scooter without a helmet. When stopped for a check, Gargiulo resisted, attempting to evade the investigation.
The identification revealed his pretrial detention, upgrading the simple infraction to a crime of escape. The 24-year-old was subsequently arrested and placed under house arrest again by the judicial authorities. He now awaits trial for the new violation.
