Naples - Yesterday morning, officers from the State Police Flying Squad arrested a 50-year-old Neapolitan man in the Scampia neighborhood, executing a warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples.
The man, already known to law enforcement, will serve a sentence of 5 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of sexual acts with a minor, committed in Naples between 2013 and 2024.
The operation began at dawn, when the police identified and arrested the individual in a crime-ridden area like Scampia, known for its social challenges and illicit activities.
Years of prolonged abuse of a minor
The order, issued by the Criminal Enforcement Office of the Ordinary Court of Naples, closes a painful chapter of prolonged abuse against a minor victim, who only found the courage to report it in recent years.
The investigation, meticulously conducted by the Prosecutor's Office, reconstructed an eleven-year period during which the defendant allegedly took advantage of his position to commit illegal acts, seriously violating the trust and integrity of a vulnerable person.
This arrest is not just a judicial conclusion, but a strong statement against crimes that target the most vulnerable. The Flying Squad continues to monitor the area to prevent recidivism and support victims, in a context like Scampia where safety remains a top priority.
The man was taken to Poggioreale prison, where he will begin serving his sentence, while authorities emphasize the importance of awareness campaigns to combat the silence surrounding these crimes.

This man's arrest is right, but the laws should be tougher to prevent these crimes from happening again. Safety in neighborhoods like Scampia is important, but more prevention and support for victims are also needed.
