Naples – It was just after 4:50 a.m. when a young tourist arrived at the emergency room of the Vecchio Pellegrini hospital, suffering from stab and slash wounds to the legs.
Carabinieri from the Naples Central branch intervened immediately to reconstruct the incident: according to an initial reconstruction, the victim—a 28-year-old originally from Rwanda but resident in England—was walking along Vico Lungo San Matteo, in the heart of the Spanish Quarter, when he was approached by three individuals.
For no apparent reason, they attacked him, hitting him with a cutting weapon before fleeing into the maze of alleys.
The young man, bleeding but conscious, managed to call for help and reach the hospital, where doctors provided him with first aid. He was discharged with a ten-day prognosis for leg injuries.
The Carabinieri of the Naples Central company are investigating the incident, trying to identify those responsible through images from surveillance cameras in the area.
Unfortunately, this is yet another episode of petty crime that has once again shone a spotlight on the Spanish Quarter, a historic and touristy area that is still too often the scene of senseless attacks and violence, especially at night.
