Following the penalty shootout that eliminated Nigeria from the 2026 World Cup against Congo, Nigerian national team coach Eric Chelle made unusual accusations against the Congolese staff.
According to the coach, in fact, a member of the DR Congo team made strange ritual movements before each penalty, agitating himself and throwing a substance of unclear content towards the Nigerian technical area, defined by Chelle himself as "maybe water, maybe something else".
“During the entire penalty shootout, a member of the DR Congo staff was performing voodoo rituals… every time, every single time,” the coach told the cameras, underlining how this behavior made the situation even more surreal and tense for the players on the pitch.
