It sounds like the script of a crime film, but it's actually the result of a single day of extensive checks by the Carabinieri of the Poggioreale company. A neighborhood thoroughly combed, where out of 128 people identified, 46 were found to have criminal records.

An operation that resulted in 36 traffic fines and nine young people reported to the Prefecture for drug use. But it's in the individual stories that a picture of widespread and multifaceted illegality emerges.

To close out the day, a significant blow to the drug dealing market. Officers searched the cellars of a residential complex in the Sant'Alfonso neighborhood, known as "Connolo." Hidden in a basement, they found nearly a kilo of drugs, already divided into doses: hashish, marijuana, cocaine, and crack. A small drug arsenal that, once released on the market, would have brought in approximately €7.000.

The international POS racket

The first net was set on a suspicious couple: a 45-year-old Romanian man, already known to law enforcement, and a 25-year-old Irish woman with no criminal record. Stopped for a check, they were found in possession of €2.700 in cash and 11 credit cards. The excuse of a simple vacation in Naples didn't convince the officers, who decided to search their hotel room on Via Vicinale Galeoncello.

Inside, a surprise: five POS terminals for electronic payments and four smartphones. Only one of the terminals was legally registered to a company in Roccadaspide, in the province of Salerno. Investigations revealed a specific agreement: the company's administrator would make his bank account available for transactions in exchange for a portion of the money. An ingenious money laundering scheme, the details of which are still being deciphered. All three were charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Madness in the hospital

Shortly thereafter, tensions escalate to the emergency room at the Ospedale del Mare. A call for help arrives at 112: a 31-year-old man, armed with scissors, is threatening a doctor, who he claims hasn't examined him promptly enough. A patrol car, already in the area, intervenes moments later. The man is arrested and charged with aggravated threats to healthcare workers.

The "smart alecks" of the street

Meanwhile, roadside checks uncover another ruse. A 25-year-old man is stopped without documents, but he shows a temporary driving permit, obtained after reporting the loss of his license. The Carabinieri, unsure of his identity, investigate further. The truth is different: the license was never lost, but rather suspended by the Prefecture. The young man is charged with false ideology, in addition to a fine for driving without a license. To complete the picture, four other drivers were caught driving without ever having obtained a license, with repeat offenses within two years.
