Pozzuoli – The circle has closed on the late summer ambush in Pozzuoli. Early this morning, Carabinieri from the local company executed a pre-trial detention order against a 26-year-old local man, believed to be the actual perpetrator of the attempted murder of Andrea Loffredo.
The operation, coordinated by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Office, puts an end to a situation that bears the shadow of the Camorra.
The events date back to the evening of August 27, when three gunshots were fired in rapid succession on Via Tiberio. The target was 28-year-old Andrea Loffredo, who was struck by two .38 caliber bullets in the left arm.
A fully-fledged punitive expedition, carried out by the 26-year-old arrested today along with an accomplice who is still wanted. Loffredo managed to save himself with a desperate run to the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital, where doctors determined his injuries would heal in 15 days.
The investigation, conducted tirelessly by the Carabinieri and prompted by the Naples Anti-Mafia Department, allowed them to reconstruct not only the dynamics but, more importantly, the motive for the attack. It wasn't an argument or an isolated act, but a planned act aimed at killing.
According to investigators, the crime was aggravated by mafia methods and the aim of facilitating the Longobardi-Beneduce clan, dominant in the Phlegraean Fields area, by consolidating its control over the territory through violence.
The 26-year-old has now been sent to prison, where he will face serious charges of attempted murder and illegal possession and carrying of a firearm. Meanwhile, his underage accomplice has also been arrested, on orders from the Prosecutor's Office for Minors.
