Sarno - Zero tolerance for environmental violations. In a drastic and immediate decision, the Municipality of Sarno has ordered the immediate suspension of operations at two biogas plants located in the strategic Foce area.
The measure immediately halts both energy production and all water discharges, ordering a total shutdown until full compliance with environmental protection regulations is restored.
The decision was made following inspections that revealed widespread irregularities in the management of wastewater, particularly rainwater, and in administrative documentation.
The contested irregularities
The suspension orders, issued this morning, affect two different management companies.
For the first plant, the Municipality has imposed a halt pending the company's obtaining a valid permit for stormwater discharge. The order highlights not only the lack of a specific permit, but also the failure to renew the general environmental permit. The authorities emphasized that irregularities had already been detected in the past with discharges into the nearby Conte Sarno Canal. The operator has now been ordered to make all necessary system upgrades to comply.
The second plant, operated by a different company, suffered the same fate. Production was also halted due to "defects" detected in the drainage system. According to the findings, rainwater was being disposed of in a manner other than that established and authorized. The company was required to comply with all technical and administrative requirements before resuming operations.
Both plants, crucial to the production of renewable energy in the area, will therefore remain closed until they demonstrate that they have resolved all non-compliances and are operating in full compliance with the law.

This is a decision that could have repercussions not only on the environment but also on the local economy. I hope the companies involved can resolve the irregularities soon and return to work, because biogas is important.
