Torre del Greco - The situation of Tommaso Severino, the 28-year-old businessman from Ercolano arrested for the road rage incident involving officer Aniello Scarpati and the wounding of his colleague, Ciro Cozzolino, is worsening.
Shedding an even darker light on the dynamics of the accident, which occurred on Halloween night on the Torre del Greco coast, is the testimony of one of the passengers who was traveling with him in the BMW X4.
The young man told investigators a crucial detail: shortly before the devastating collision with the police car, the SUV was engaged in a reckless pursuit. The vehicle was targeted by two young men riding a scooter, with whom they had apparently had a heated argument over traffic. This version would explain the vehicle's reckless speed, which adds to the other incriminating evidence.
The charges and the judicial position
Tommaso Severino, represented by attorneys Domenico Dello Iacono and Valentina Alfieri, is currently in Poggioreale prison. He faces very serious charges: vehicular homicide aggravated by alcohol and drug use, and failure to provide assistance.
Toxicology tests confirmed a blood alcohol level above the legal limit and a positive drug test. The textile entrepreneur is the only one of the three adult occupants of the SUV currently in custody. The other two friends, although under investigation at large for failure to assist, have provided evidence that could prove crucial to the investigation.
Tomorrow Severino will face preliminary hearing before the investigating judge.
Grief for the hero Scarpati and hope for Cozzolino
As justice takes its course, the community mourns the passing of Aniello Scarpati. This afternoon, a chapel of rest was set up at the Nino Bixio barracks in Naples to allow colleagues and residents to pay their last respects.
During the November 4th celebrations, the prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, called the officer "a hero of our time," appealing to young people to ensure that similar tragedies never happen again. Meanwhile, hope is being expressed at the Ospedale del Mare, where police officer Ciro Cozzolino is being treated with a guarded prognosis. His condition, though serious, has been described as slightly improving, fueling expectations for his full recovery.
