The Campagna community awoke yesterday morning to news that shocked the entire town: the deaths of Enrico Gonnella, 30, and Gabriele Viviani, 22, victims of a dramatic accident along the Mediterranean Highway, between Eboli and Campagna.
The crash occurred on the night between Saturday and Sunday, around 3:30 a.m., as the two friends were returning from an evening out together. Their Audi A3, headed south, suddenly crashed into the guardrail, a few hundred meters from the Campagna exit. Passing motorists noticed the completely crumpled car and immediately alerted emergency services.
Ambulances from 118, Vopi medical personnel, a medical car, the Eboli firefighters, who extracted the bodies from the wreckage, and officers from the Eboli traffic police sub-section, led by Inspector Cosimo Di Cicco, responded to the scene and carried out surveys to reconstruct the accident's dynamics.
The bodies of the two young men were transferred to the Eboli hospital morgue, where medical examiner Luigi Mastrangelo performed the external examination. By order of the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, the car was impounded for examination, while an autopsy was deemed unnecessary. The bodies were returned to their families for the funeral, which will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of San Michele Arcangelo.
The possible causes
The traffic police will now have to clarify what caused the impact.

This is truly very sad news. I can't believe these kids died in an accident. The community should be more united in these difficult times, to support their families in this great grief.
