An initiative that unites the world of work and civic engagement begins today in Caserta: a free training course to transform hairdressers, beauticians, and wellness professionals into true "sentinels" against gender-based violence. The initiative, hosted at the headquarters of Confartigianato Imprese Caserta, is promoted by the Soroptimist Club of Caserta, together with Confartigianato and ANCoS Aps, as part of the national project "Sentinels in the Professions" launched by Soroptimist International d'Italia.
The goal is ambitious: to create a network of knowledgeable professionals, capable of detecting the signs of distress that often hide behind a smile or a chat in front of the mirror. Because those who work in the personal care industry—with scissors, nail polish, and massage—are often the first to come into contact with those experiencing physical or psychological abuse.
During the two-day training, participants will address issues of gender-based violence, available financial and psychological support options, and the role that institutions and law enforcement play in protecting victims.

Along the same lines, the president of the Soroptimist Club of Caserta, Lidia Luberto, emphasizes the human value of the project: "We want places like beauty salons or sports centers to become safe spaces, where women can find initial guidance and the strength to seek support. We don't need interrogations, but empathy and care."
The training, Luberto explains, will teach women how to recognize subtle signs and discreetly direct them to anti-violence centers or support services. It's a new, practical, and humane way to bring prevention where violence often hides: in everyday life.

This initiative is very important because it helps raise awareness about gender-based violence. However, I wonder how the courses will be conducted and whether there will be enough participants to make a difference in the area.
