Naples – EAV is taking a hard line following yet another assault on a train. The regional transport company has filed a complaint with the Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Caserta) prosecutor's office regarding the violence that occurred on November 3rd on a train departing from Piedimonte Matese and headed to Naples Central Station.

According to the reconstruction, a traveler allegedly made serious death threats and attempted to assault a member of the train crew. The situation was contained only thanks to the timely intervention of the train conductor, who secured his colleague by having him take refuge in the driver's cabin. At the same time, the Railway Police were called, but were unable to apprehend the attacker before he could escape.
In the complaint, EAV calls for the adoption of prohibitive and preventive measures, such as a ban on approaching vehicles and the so-called "urban DASPO" (Daspo) order, to ensure greater protection for workers and passengers on trains and in stations. The aim is to prevent individuals deemed dangerous from continuing to use public transport services as a site of threats and violence.

In an official statement, the company emphasizes that the person responsible for the incident is already known for previous violent behavior against staff. EAV reiterates its firm condemnation of any form of aggression and its utmost commitment to ensuring the safety of workers and travelers, while emphasizing the need for more effective protection measures, starting with the 'urban DASPO' order.
The case is part of a broader pattern of increasing reports of verbal and physical violence against public transport staff. Unions and companies have long been calling for increased on-board checks and the introduction of more severe sanctions for those who attack front-line workers in contact with passengers.
