Ariano Irpino – A new tragedy has unfolded within the walls of an Italian penitentiary. This time, the one making the headlines is the Ariano Irpino prison, where yesterday a 34-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell.

His cellmates raised the alarm, in a last-ditch and futile attempt to save his life. The alert immediately alerted prison officers, who promptly responded to the scene.

However, there was nothing more that could be done for the young man, originally from Caserta and resident in Caivano. All attempts at resuscitation were in vain: his heart had already stopped beating.

Rescue operations and initial investigations have revealed no evidence suggesting violence or extreme actions. Sources familiar with the investigation, conducted by judicial authorities, indicate that the primary hypothesis is that death was due to sudden illness.

The 34-year-old's body was then transferred to the morgue of the Frangipane-Bellizzi Hospital in Ariano Irpino, where an autopsy will be performed to confirm the cause of death and dispel any remaining doubts. The judiciary has opened an investigation to shed full light on the young man's tragic end.

The episode refocuses attention on the critical conditions of the Italian prison system, an ever-present and painful topic, where stories like this raise ongoing questions about the protection of the health and lives of those detained.

But should we feel sorry? They think twice before committing crimes. I feel sorry for the innocent people who can't make it to the end of the month because they have nothing to eat, given that the statp pays taxes on their 500 euro pension and that's it!

You speak because you haven't been through it too and a human being like you don't speak because one day you might go through it too.

MenaeAniello D'auria, if you have a clear conscience and don't commit crimes, I don't think it's okay. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, anyone can die.

Michele Caputo, oh, too many people are really dying…how come…no one has time to save them…there aren't any guards…I'm really sorry that not all the people in there have committed terrible crimes…some of them even smoked a joint…then everyone can think what they want…

What happened in Ariano Irpino prison is truly tragic. It's unthinkable that a life could end like this in a place where everyone should be treated with care and attention. I hope there are serious investigations.

The prison situation in Italy is increasingly critical and the existing problems cannot be ignored. The health of prisoners should be a priority for all of us. We hope that something changes.

It's sad to hear this news. We hope the authorities do their job and find the exact cause of death. Every life has value and deserves respect, even inside prisons.
