In the heart of the Land of Fires, the Marcianise Forestry Carabinieri arrested a Romanian citizen caught illegally managing hazardous waste in the Caserta area.
The operation, triggered by a report from the Italian Army involved in the "Safe Roads - Land of Fires" contingent, took place along Via delle Industrie in Trentola Ducenta.
During an inspection of a truck, the military discovered that the container was full of hazardous special waste, including WEEE (electrical and electronic equipment) and other unidentified materials, for an estimated total of approximately 4 cubic meters.
The driver, already known to law enforcement for similar offenses dating back just two months, presented two waste identification forms, which were found to be false. Furthermore, the vehicle was not authorized to transport hazardous waste.
I Carabinieri Forestry officials charged the individual with the crime of illegal management of hazardous special waste and transportation with false accompanying documents, which reported incorrect information on the nature and composition of the transported materials.
The man was arrested in flagrante delicto and, at the same time, the precautionary seizure of the vehicle and the waste was ordered, in addition to the evidentiary seizure of the false forms.
The arrested driver also received the additional penalty of license suspension, as provided for by the Consolidated Environmental Act. The penalties for this law have recently been increased to more effectively combat environmental crime in the Land of Fires.
