Another night of terror in Sant'Anastasia, near Naples, where a group of criminals attempted to rob the Unicredit ATM in Piazza IV Novembre using the "spaccata" technique. To break into the ATM, the criminals used an Alfa Romeo Giulietta stolen from an unsuspecting resident, transforming it into a battering ram and abandoning it at the scene, reduced to a pile of wreckage.
The incident, reported to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli of the Green-Side Alliance by a resident, ended without the thieves succeeding thanks to the timely intervention of security and law enforcement. The car used in the robbery was completely destroyed in the impact.
Crime on the rise
The attempted theft is part of an increasingly worrying national picture. Official data confirms the increase in predatory crimes in Italy, with a particular surge in car thefts and petty street crime. Sant'Anastasia is no exception, recording an escalation in criminal incidents in recent months, fueling a sense of insecurity among residents.
"They act as if they were in El Dorado"
"The images of that car, stolen from an honest citizen and reduced to scrap metal for a criminal act, represent the symbol of a violence and audacity we can no longer tolerate," said Borrelli and Ines Barone, territorial representative of Europa Verde. "These criminals act with a sense of impunity that makes them feel like they're in El Dorado."
The two politicians point to staffing shortages: "We lack both personnel and resources. We have too few officers on the ground to ensure comprehensive surveillance and deter this type of crime. The victim of theft suffers a double blow: they lose their car and see it used for other criminal purposes."
The appeal to the State
"The state must invest heavily in security, strengthening law enforcement and providing adequate tools to counter this wave of crime," Borrelli and Barone conclude. "We cannot allow fear and insecurity to become the norm in our cities."

It's disturbing that there's an increase in theft and crime in Sant'Anastasia. People are afraid to go out, and that's not good. Something must be done to stop this situation before it gets worse.
