Montoro (Avellino) – Nearly ten thousand items, including Christmas decorations, hardware products, cosmetics, small electronic devices, and various other items, were seized by the Guardia di Finanza of Solofra during an operation aimed at protecting consumer safety.
During checks in a commercial activity of Montoro, the financial police discovered that the goods lacked the minimum mandatory information in Italian required by the Consumer Code: information on origin, manufacturer or importer, instructions for use, and precautions were missing. Furthermore, many products did not bear the CE marking, a fundamental requirement for their free circulation and marketing within the European Union. The business owner was reported to the Irpinia Sannio Chamber of Commerce for violating Articles 6, 7, and 9 of Legislative Decree 206/2005 and now risks financial penalties.
"Our action," the Guardia di Finanza explains in a statement, "aims to ensure consumer safety and protect fair competition by combating the spread of products that do not comply with safety standards." This intervention comes just a few weeks before the Christmas holidays and puts the spotlight back on the phenomenon of "low-cost" goods without certification, which are too often sold in complete disregard of the rules.

The Guardia di Finanza operation in Montoro was very important for consumer safety, but perhaps more frequent checks would have been better to prevent these problems before they occur.
