A drone used to transport drugs was found in the early hours of this morning on the roof of the Avellino-Bellizzi prison. According to initial reports, the aircraft was used to smuggle approximately 750 grams of hashish into the facility.
The news was given by Raffaele Troise, head of the Gau Uilpa Secretariat Penitentiary Police of Avellino-Bellizzi, who emphasized the officers' commitment to combating the spread of narcotics and the introduction of cell phones into prisons.
The incident is part of a worrying scenario: since the beginning of the year, several seizures of drugs and electronic devices have already been made in the Irpinia prison. "This is another serious blow to the criminal business behind bars," the union states, "but officers must not be left alone."
The Uilpa Penitentiary Police is calling for increased staffing and more resources for those who daily ensure safety and order within detention facilities, which are increasingly challenged by overcrowding that risks becoming structural.
