Caivano - Two generations united not by affection or honest work, but—according to the Carabinieri—by drug dealing. In Caivano, in the heart of the Parco Verde, a 58-year-old grandfather and his 18-year-old grandson, who shares his name, were arrested on charges of possession with intent to sell narcotics. Both were placed under house arrest pending trial.

The operation began late in the evening, when a patrol from the Caivano Carabinieri Station, supported by officers from the mobile radio unit, noticed a suspicious exchange on the street. The officers witnessed a drug deal being made to a customer, who was arrested and fined for drug use.

Tracing the alleged supply point, the Carabinieri identified the 58-year-old man and his 18-year-old nephew, detaining them and subjecting them to a personal and home search. During the searches, they seized 11 doses of cocaine ready for sale, packaging materials, and €280 in cash, which investigators believe to be the proceeds of the illegal activity.

The elderly man and the young man, who according to investigators not only shared the home but also the management of individual sales, were thus arrested. The Prosecutor's Office confirmed the arrest and ordered both men to be placed under house arrest, pending the next stages of the proceedings.

The case brings the spotlight back to the condition of Caivano's Parco Verde, an area marked for years by social degradation, unemployment, and widespread drug dealing, where—as this story reveals—crime often seems to be passed down from generation to generation.
