Naples – The story of the sexual violence against two cousins in Caivano The case opens a new chapter: the Naples Court of Appeals has upheld the convictions of the two adults involved. Pasquale Mosca, 21, was sentenced to 13 years, 4 months, and 20 days in prison, while Giuseppe Varriale, 20, had his sentence reduced to 8 years and 8 months from the 12 years and 5 months he received in the first instance trial.
The two young men were charged with gang rape, threats, and the unlawful dissemination of sexually explicit content. Their defense lawyers had filed an appeal seeking a review of their convictions, but Mosca's first-instance verdict was upheld, while Varriale received a reduced sentence.
The family of the youngest victim expressed relief: "Satisfaction with the Court's decision," they said through their lawyer, Clara Niola. The case, closely followed by the public, has reignited the debate on the protection of minors and the importance of exemplary sentences in cases of sexual violence.

The court's ruling is fair, but the sentence seems a bit too lenient to me. Sexual assault crimes should have harsher penalties to protect victims and make it clear that certain things cannot be done.
