Naples - In his statements before prosecutors of the Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), associate Errico D'Ambrosio, now under protection, also recounted that Antonio Pompilio, one of the drug trafficking ringleaders for the Amato-Pagano clan, had become increasingly nervous after learning shocking news: Raffaele Imperiale, the international drug trafficking boss, had decided to cooperate with justice. This defection had the impact of a major earthquake in the Camorra system.
The alarm was raised when Antonio Pompilio, known as 'o Cafone, discovered that someone had found and removed the bugs installed in his car and in the house where the clan's meetings were held. From that moment, everything changed. Pompilio knew the DIA was watching him and had begun to fear not only the state, but also his own "brothers" in arms.
The woman who decided with her husband
At the top, according to the informants, was Debora Amato, "the clan's lady," feared and respected like few others. Everyone knew that every important decision passed through her and her husband, Mimmo, the man who acted as a link between the clan and the major cocaine brokers.
In July 2023, Debora left for Spain, along with Mimmo, for a "clarifying" meeting with Pompilio Antonio. They were supposed to verify the family's accounts and restore balance. But that meeting, the informants say, turned into a tense summit, rife with suspicion.
The Barcelona meeting
In Barcelona, in the heat of a summer that reeked of fear, Pompilio arrived convinced that someone was out to eliminate him. He had even confided that he feared Enrico Bocchetti, one of the key figures in Mugnano's group.

D'Ambrosio recalls that he himself, along with other affiliates, visited Pompilio in Spain between June and August 2023. Also with them was "Checco" from San Pietro a Patierno, Mimmo's right-hand man. He was the one who said the meeting in Barcelona hadn't clarified anything.
"There was no peace with Bocchetti," Checco said, adding that only Debora Amato had attempted to mediate: she had promised Pompilio that Bocchetti, who had since ended up in prison, would not harm him. But the Cafone no longer trusted anyone. He stayed in Spain, watching his back.
The Mugnano company
Behind the grudges and fears, there was always money. D'Ambrosio reveals that it all began with a secret "company" created by Mugnano's group to manage drug sales outside the clan's direct control. The proceeds—as much as €40 a month—were split between Pompilio, Antonio Marrone, Carlo Calzone, Carletto il Piccolino, Enzo Tempesta, Maurizio Errichelli, known as Sciminione, and other historic names.
When Bocchetti learned that Pompilio had revealed the existence of that company, he flew into a rage. Mugnano's men realized the tip-off could cost them their lives. From that moment on, Pompilio lived in fear of being killed, even by his own comrades.

It's interesting to see how the dynamics between clans can be so complex and dangerous. Fear seems to dominate every decision. It would be helpful to delve deeper into the role of women in these organizations, like Debora Amato, who wields considerable power.
