Camposano has been declared a red zone by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, an extraordinary measure implemented following recent incidents of petty crime that have highlighted some areas considered particularly sensitive. The decision was made during the Committee for Public Order and Safety, which also included the mayor, and represents an immediate response to citizens' growing demands for safety.
The measure affects Piazza Umberto I and the surrounding streets, including Corso Vittorio Emanuele III, Via Roma, Via Armando Diaz, Borgo Petillo, and the Villa Comunale. These areas have been affected by dangerous presences and aggressive or disruptive behavior, which has limited the use of public spaces and fueled deterioration. The measure prohibits loitering for anyone who, in addition to displaying threatening behavior, has already been reported to the judicial authorities for crimes ranging from drug dealing to violence, from theft to illegal occupation, and even the unlawful possession or carrying of weapons.
The Prefect recalled the results achieved in the past with similar measures in other municipalities, emphasizing that the goal is to ensure more effective and coordinated law enforcement action. Despite the existing controls in place, the pressure of petty crime and the perceived insecurity necessitated further interventions, supported by extraordinary resources. The aim is to restore livability to urban spaces, protect the population, and ensure stricter control of critical areas.
