Castellammare di Stabia – An extortion attempt aggravated by mafia methods, carried out with blatant violence in the port of Castellammare di Stabia, has led to the execution of two pre-trial detention orders.

The measure, issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, was carried out by the police of the Castellammare Company on behalf of the District Attorney of Naples.

The two suspects are considered seriously suspected of attempting to subdue an insurance adjuster through threats and intimidation. The alleged extortionists' goal was to obtain a fraudulent adjuster's report, which would be used to collect a substantial insurance settlement for a vessel.

The episode, reconstructed by investigators, dates back to October 10, 2025. The victim, a technician assigned to carry out surveys on the vessel, had just arrived at the dock to begin the necessary photographic surveys. It was at that moment that the two men approached him.

The suspects' conduct, described in the documents as particularly violent and demonstrative, was not limited to verbal threats. To convince the expert to provide favorable documentation, the two grabbed him and threw him into the water, an attack intended to clearly demonstrate who was calling the shots at that moment.

This brutal and spectacular act, carried out in a public place like the port, represents the hallmark of the mafia threat: a display of force and contempt for the law, aimed at influencing not only the immediate victim, but the entire surrounding environment.

The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted with the operational support of the Carabinieri, allowed the collection of evidence deemed sufficient to warrant an arrest.

The article talks about an extortion attempt, but it seems to me that law enforcement should do more to prevent similar incidents. It's incredible how the mafia can still operate so freely in certain areas.
