Cell phones and threats in Nisida: Tensions rise at the juvenile detention center.

Naples – Cell phones continue to be found inside the Nisida juvenile detention center. The latest incident occurred on Saturday, when Penitentiary Police officers, suspicious of unusual activity in a unit, conducted a special search and found a large smartphone, complete with SIM card and charger, under a bathroom cabinet.

The Independent Union of Penitentiary Police (SAPPe) made the announcement through the Campania deputy director of the juvenile sector, Sabatino De Rosa. "The adult inmate, suspected of being the owner of the phone, reacted with violent death threats against an officer," De Rosa explained. "An extremely serious incident, considering the man is being held for a brutal murder."

The union representative denounces a situation that has now become unsustainable: “In recent times, several episodes of serious violence have occurred that have not received adequate responses.

Despite this behavior, De Rosa continues, the inmate is still being held in the first ward, designated for individuals rewarded for good behavior. "It's inconceivable," he emphasizes, "that someone who displays violence and danger should remain in a reward ward. He should have been transferred immediately to the adult ward, also to send a signal of support to the officers affected by these unacceptable attacks."

SAPPe is calling for a concrete change in the management of the Nisida juvenile detention center. "If we truly want to restore peace among the officers," De Rosa concludes, "we need to take a firm stance. Adult inmates must be removed from the juvenile circuit and transferred to adult facilities. Only in this way will it be possible to protect the safety and dignity of the staff on duty."
