Trieste leads the ranking of cities with the most recreational and cultural offerings. The South, however, remains Italy's warmest region, thanks to Palermo and Naples.
Seven out of ten Italians want to experience a more authentic social life, made of real encounters, conviviality, and shared moments: this is demonstrated by the new trends that emerged after the Covid-19 pandemic, which has changed, but not broken, the way people build relationships.
According to a survey conducted on over 40 thousand young people between the ages of 13 and 40, 80% did not see their social relationships worsen after the health emergency. Indeed, many have strengthened their friendships. Today, socializing is not just a necessity, but a priority, as demonstrated 64% of Italians say they feel more at peace after meeting with friends, or 58% say their mood has improved.Aperitifs, lunches, evenings spent together, but also cultural and musical events: the need for authentic connection is expressed through shared experiences.
Among the strongest trends in Italy stand out the group travel, particularly loved by Millennials and Gen Z, and concerts, which in 2023 attracted over 28 million viewers (+70,1% compared to 2019), generating revenues of 894 million euros. Also growing strongly is karaoke, part of a $10 billion global market, and the stand-up comedy, with a +126% of online searches since 2021. In an Italy increasingly attentive to the quality of human relationships, sociality is once again taking center stage, with new ways of meeting and cities transforming into true relationship laboratories.

It's interesting to see how cities change over time, and the fact that Trieste is at the top of the list makes me think. I hope other cities can improve their cultural and recreational offerings.
