Rome – The decision of the Rome preliminary hearing judge is expected on November 20th on the request for indictment advanced by the Prosecutor's Office against Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of the Naples Football, investigated for false accounting.
The investigation concerns the 2019, 2020, and 2021 accounting years, during which – according to the prosecution – fictitious capital gains were realized linked to certain market transactions.
In addition to De Laurentiis, Andrea Chiavelli, the president's manager and right-hand man, and the SSC Napoli sports club itself are also under investigation in the proceedings.
At the center of the investigation, in particular, are two deals: the sale of Greek defender Kostas Manolas from Roma to Napoli in the summer of 2019 and the purchase of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Lille in 2020. According to investigators, these transactions would have generated inflated values in the company balance sheets.
During today's preliminary hearing, Chiavelli made spontaneous statements before the judge, defending the correctness of the disputed transactions.
"These were not fraudulent maneuvers," he stated, "but normal market dynamics, conducted in compliance with accounting and sporting rules."
The judge has reserved his decision, which will be made on November 20, when he will decide whether to send the case to trial or dismiss it.
