Ercolano: Ghost factory of used clothing discovered; 10 tons of waste seized.

Ercoano - A veritable ghost factory, overflowing with textile waste and lacking even the most basic safety standards. This is the discovery made recently in Ercolano by soldiers from the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, who seized an unauthorized 300-square-meter structure, which had been transformed into an illegal storage facility.

Inside, the financial police of the Portici Company found themselves faced with a mountain of waste: 10 tons of used clothing, classified as special waste, piled up in bales ready to be processed or resold.

The business, run by a 25-year-old Italian man already known to law enforcement, operated completely illegally. The factory, used for the wholesale, recovery, and processing of second-hand clothing, was completely unknown to the tax authorities and lacked any permits required for waste management.

But the main concern was the health and safety aspects.

The clothes, collected in urban centers, were stored and processed without any sanitization or disinfection process, ready to be reintroduced into a "parallel market" with no guarantee of traceability or quality for future buyers.

The entire structure has been described as a potential "time bomb." The military noted the complete lack of a fire prevention system, required by law given the enormous amount of highly flammable material stored within the premises. This poses a significant risk to the entire surrounding area.

The operation, launched as part of economic controls in the area and in line with the instructions provided by the Prefect of Naples, Dr. Michele di Bari, at the Committee for Public Order and Safety, concluded with the seizure of the entire warehouse, the 10 tons of waste, and all the work equipment present: a scale, metal baskets, workbenches, and various documents relating to the management of the illegal activity.

The 25-year-old manager was reported at large to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples. He will face serious charges of illegal waste management and violations of mandatory fire prevention certifications.

It's not just a hygiene issue, but also a public safety issue, as the lack of a fire prevention system could cause enormous disasters. Something must be done now!

I agree with you; it seems absurd that something like this could go on for so long without anyone intervening. More frequent checks should be carried out to prevent such dangerous situations.

It's incredible how certain things can happen in broad daylight. I don't understand how no one had seen this factory before, which was so overflowing with textile waste and unsafe, a real disgrace for our society.
