Femicide in Piscinola: The Prosecutor's Office opens a homicide investigation: Nunzia was shot in the head.

The death of Nunzia Cappitelli, 51, found inside her home late Friday afternoon, November 14, is a new suspected femicide. It is no longer a "domestic mystery": the Naples Prosecutor's Office is now investigating for voluntary homicide.

Naples - The breakthrough came after the initial results of the autopsy performed yesterday. Public Prosecutor Antonella Serio and Deputy Prosecutor Raffaello Falcone concluded that the deep head wound was consistent with a blow from a blunt object. A violent, precise act. Not an accident.

Among the hypotheses is that of a bottle, given the presence of shards found a short distance from the body. Forensic investigators had already identified these elements in the hours immediately following the discovery.

One detail, however, intrigues investigators: none of the victim's relatives have yet decided to join the case or appoint a lawyer, despite the prosecutor's formal request for a forensic examination.

Meanwhile, tomorrow morning, the funeral of Nunzia Cappitelli, the woman found dead last Saturday afternoon in Marianella, a northern suburb of Naples, will be held. The final farewell will be held at 10:30 in the church almost adjacent to the fifty-one-year-old's home where she was found dead.

The investigative leads: stalking, rejected courtships and a broken relationship

For now, no names appear in the list of suspects. But investigations are ongoing. The Flying Squad, led by director Giovanni Leuci, are carefully examining the two stalking complaints Nunzia filed in recent months.

The first concerns a man her age, a persistent suitor who had been rejected several times. He lives in the same neighborhood, and it was not uncommon for the two to cross paths in the street, but—according to his version and initial findings—he was apparently out of town that day, and at present there is no evidence linking him to the crime scene.

Then there's the 21-year-old who raised the alarm after finding Nunzia's body lying on the ground, her back turned. They had a brief relationship, which later developed into a friendship: she even helped him secure placement in social services. The young man, often seen on the colorful veranda she was transforming into an artificial garden, was interviewed by investigators, but no evidence against him has emerged.

The possible scenario: an argument that escalated

The hypothesis that investigators seem to be focusing on is that Nunzia knew her killer.

The entrance to the house shows no signs of forced entry: the door – a simple double lock – may have been left open by the woman herself, as she sometimes did.

The scenario is being considered of a degenerate encounter, perhaps a sudden argument, an angry outburst, a blow to the head with the bottle. Then the violent fall to the floor would have aggravated—perhaps completed—the deadly situation.

A new inspection of the house may be arranged in the next few hours, looking for details that were missed in the initial stages.

The knot of the time of death

Another aspect still shrouded in secrecy is the exact time of death. Despite the autopsy, the Prosecutor's Office is maintaining the utmost caution. Nunzia was last seen Wednesday evening.

A creature of habit, she left every morning between 10:30 and 11:00. On Thursday, however, no one saw her. A gap in time that could prove decisive.

A story that is too similar to the others

Nunzia Cappitelli's case is part of the tragic list of femicides that continue to plague the Italian news: women who report, who ask for help, who try to protect themselves, and who too often are not saved in time.

Now the truth is being revealed by the prosecutor's office. In a neighborhood shaken and incredulous, one question remains, echoing through the alleys of Piscinola: who killed Nunzia, and why?
