SALERNO – He introduced himself as a Carabinieri marshal, with a firm voice and a reassuring tone, but behind that fake uniform lurked a con artist. A 53-year-old man from the Caserta area was arrested by Carabinieri officers at the Santa Maria di Castellabate station on charges of robbing an elderly woman in Cilento after impersonating a Carabinieri officer.
The arrest was made at Santa Maria Capua Vetere, where the military executed a house arrest order issued by the investigating judge of the Vallo della Lucania Court.

Using an even more subtle ploy, the scammer managed to obtain the phone number of a friend of the woman, convincing her to leave with an excuse. He then showed up at the house, where the elderly woman, despite her suspicions, was unable to stop him. The fake marshal then stole all the gold jewelry and fled in a car.
Thanks to a meticulous investigation, the Carabinieri reconstructed the incident and located the man, who will now face charges of aggravated residential burglary and impersonation. This new case brings attention to the phenomenon of elderly scams, often conducted coldly and with deceptions as convincing as they are cruel.

It's truly incredible how people can fall for such elaborate traps. I hope the authorities do more to prevent these cases and protect the elderly from similar attacks. It's unbelievable that things like this happen.
