Benevento - A night of flames in the center of Benevento revealed a complex reality of lawlessness and danger. A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Carabinieri on dual charges of setting fire to the apartment he was squatting in and illegally possessing weapons and ammunition.

The fire broke out during the night between November 4th and 5th in a residence owned by Acer, requiring immediate intervention by the Fire Department. The flames devoured furnishings and caused such severe structural damage to the bedroom that it rendered not only the apartment in question uninhabitable, but also the one upstairs.

The investigations by the Carabinieri of the Benevento Company immediately turned to arson.

Suspicions focused on the 34-year-old man who, along with a 31-year-old woman, was living in the apartment without a permit. Both were charged with illegal occupation.

The breakthrough came with a search of the home of a 35-year-old woman from Benevento, a place regularly frequented by the suspect. Inside, the officers discovered and seized a small arsenal: a flare gun, a hunting rifle, and .45 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

In addition to the weapons, numerous items of dubious origin were found, including watches, silverware, and other furnishings, believed to be stolen property. The clothing the man was presumably wearing at the time of the fire was also seized.
