Naples - Road safety in Fuorigrotta is experiencing a dramatic new chapter. On the night between Sunday and Monday, around 1:00 a.m., a girl—who, according to initial reports, was a minor—was hit by a car near the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
The driver did not stop to provide assistance and fled the scene, committing yet another act of road piracy.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of the Green-Side Alliance, forcefully denounced the incident, calling it a "tragedy waiting to happen" and accusing the institutions of inertia.
We're facing yet another tragedy waiting to happen. Our complaint has been ongoing for some time, gathering desperate reports from residents: illegal street races, wild scooters riding late into the night, and Fast & Furious-style custom car rallies taking place undisturbed just meters from the San Paolo Police Station.

Tonight's accident is the epilogue to a script already written, and my question is always the same: why didn't we intervene earlier? Are they waiting for someone to die, for a sensational tragedy to happen?" Borrelli attacks.
Along with him, Rosario Pugliese, a member of the regional executive of Europa Verde, highlights the "dramatic" pattern of similar incidents in the same area. Just a few days ago, they recall, a 14-year-old girl was hit by a car in similarly serious circumstances.
"It is no longer acceptable that a strategic area of the city is held hostage by lawlessness and decay. We urge the Prefect and law enforcement to implement constant and permanent nighttime patrols and to intervene by installing speed bumps and cameras to prevent speeding. We cannot allow the lives of our children to be put at risk by the recklessness of a few," Borrelli and Pugliese stated.
To maintain awareness and demand immediate action, residents and local committees have organized another protest for this evening, November 17th, at 22:30 PM, outside the Maradona Stadium. Borrelli and Pugliese will also participate in the initiative, announcing their intention to continue the protest until concrete measures are taken.
