The Carabinieri have closed in on a series of aggravated thefts that, for nearly a year, have disrupted communications for thousands of private and public users in the heart of the Salerno area.
This morning in Naples, officers from the Tramonti Station and the Amalfi Police Company executed a precautionary detention order issued by the Salerno investigating judge, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office. Three men were placed under house arrest.
The Damage and the Technological "Treasure"
The investigation shed light on how the suspects allegedly repeatedly broke into telecommunications exchanges in the municipality of Tramonti, on the Amalfi Coast. This wasn't a random theft: the target was the plastic heads, crucial components that house the valuable metal contacts.

Between May 2024 and March 2025, the gang allegedly stole 28 printheads in several raids. The direct economic damage is estimated at €12.000, but the real impact was on the network: each printhead contains the terminals of approximately 100 users. In total, 2.800 landlines were compromised, causing prolonged malfunctions and connection interruptions.
The clearly predatory "loot" consisted of precious materials contained in the terminals, such as copper, beryllium, phosphorus bronze, and platinum, all essential components in the telecommunications sector. The theft not only isolated citizens, but also disrupted public services that rely on landlines, exacerbating the scope of the crime.
Today's operation represents the conclusion of the investigations that led to the identification of those responsible and the end of this criminal escalation at the expense of essential infrastructure.
