Giugliano – A routine check turns into a seizure with disturbing implications, revealing just how deeply rooted and diverse the "chemical high" market still is in the province north of Naples.
The Carabinieri of the Giugliano Company have dealt a heavy blow to local drug dealing, arresting Joseph Pio Capasso, a 25-year-old local man already known to law enforcement, who was found in possession of a sample of narcotics that, due to its variety and type, surprised the officers themselves.
The roadblock and the nervousness
It all began on the streets of Giugliano, during a patrol by the mobile radio unit. The order to stop a car carrying several young people seemed like a formality, but the behavior of one of the passengers immediately aroused the officers' suspicions.
Excessive agitation, evasive answers, and a furtive glance were the signs that prompted the Carabinieri to further investigate with a personal search.
Their hunch proved correct. Hidden on the young man's person, the officers found several small bags containing narcotics, marking what investigators called an "unprecedented" seizure, not so much because of the sheer quantities, but rather because of the diversification of the merchandise ready to be released into the nightlife circuit.
The "menu" of getting high
What emerged from the 25-year-old's pockets is a disturbing glimpse into the new trends in youth consumption. Not the usual marijuana or cocaine, but an assortment of synthetic drugs of the most diverse colors and shapes, designed to provide artificial euphoria, disinhibition, and low-cost hallucinations.
Specifically, the seizure includes:
A sachet of pink powder, a chemical variant that is often very potent.

Ecstasy pills of different colors (one blue and four pink), ready for immediate consumption.
Approximately 2,8 grams of an unidentified beige powder, also attributable to the MDMA family.
Two sachets of crystallized ecstasy, considered by users to be the "purest" version of the substance.
Completing the picture were a dose of hashish and €570 in cash, an amount believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing.
The operation highlights the resurgent resurgence of synthetic drugs, substances that amplify sensory perceptions and physical energy, but which hide devastating health risks, especially among the very young who flock to nightclubs.
Joseph Pio Capasso was arrested and placed under house arrest pending trial. He will face charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
