Gricignano D'Aversa – An illegal appliance repair shop concealed serious illegal activity. This is what the Carabinieri of the Marcianise Forestry Unit and the Gricignano d'Aversa Station discovered. Following a joint operation, they arrested the business owner.
The man is accused of having created a veritable open-air landfill, illegally disposing of tons of hazardous waste.
The military's intervention allowed them to access a fenced property, protected by a chained and padlocked gate, where a scene of serious environmental degradation unfolded. Large quantities of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) were piled up on the bare ground, all exposed to the elements.
Specifically, 47 refrigerators, 8 washing machines, 3 freezers, and 8 air conditioner motors were found, along with various types of bulky waste. The presence of wild weeds growing on some of the appliances indicated that they had been abandoned for some time.

These devices are classified as hazardous due to the fluorinated gases (F-gases) they contain. These are substances whose release into the atmosphere is strictly prohibited by law, as they contribute to the greenhouse effect and can cause significant environmental damage.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of the perpetrator. During the investigation, the man's car was located, with an advertisement for his repair business on the side. Similar waste was also found inside his garage.
Faced with such overwhelming evidence, the Carabinieri arrested the suspect in flagrante delicto. The entire area and all the waste were seized to stop the crime and begin cleanup procedures.

I read this article and was shocked by the conditions in which the appliances were abandoned. It's incredible how some people can act without respect for the environment. I hope the situation is resolved soon.
