Villa Literno – He had sown death and suffering along the 7/quater state road, then disappeared without providing assistance and attempted to evade justice by fleeing abroad with his wife and children. But the circle has closed around the hit-and-run driver who caused a tragic accident on November 16 in Villa Literno, in the Caserta province, which claimed the life of a sixty-one-year-old woman.
The man, driving a BMW, violently rear-ended a car near the municipal area. The impact was devastating: the sixty-one-year-old woman in the vehicle died instantly, while the other three occupants sustained serious injuries requiring hospitalization at various hospitals in Campania. The driver of the BMW, instead of stopping to provide first aid, accelerated and fled the scene.
The Highway Police investigation and the escape abroad
Investigations conducted by the Highway Police led to the identity of the perpetrator, despite the car being registered to a front man to deflect any potential investigations. Once he discovered he was in the investigators' sights, the man decided to hastily leave Italy with his wife and children, boarding a flight abroad in an attempt to avoid arrest.

The North Naples Prosecutor's Office, however, wasted no time: prosecutors issued a detention order against the fugitive. On November 24th, as soon as he set foot on Italian soil, the man was apprehended by law enforcement. On November 27th, the preliminary investigations judge validated the restraining order, confirming the seriousness of the alleged offences.
The hit-and-run driver now faces charges of vehicular homicide and failure to render aid, crimes aggravated by fleeing the scene and attempting to evade justice by fleeing the country. The victim leaves behind a grieving family and friends, while the three injured continue to receive treatment in Campania hospitals.

It's truly sad that someone would do something like this. The consequences of road accidents like these are devastating, and the driver's escape only exacerbates them. Let's hope justice is served.
