Salerno – Tragedy struck this afternoon along the A2 Mediterranean motorway, near Salerno: a 54-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident on the northbound carriageway, between the Eboli and Battipaglia junctions.

According to initial reports, it was a single-vehicle accident. The victim, a 54-year-old man from San Cipriano Picentino (in the province of Salerno), was driving a small car and traveling alone. For reasons still being investigated by the Highway Patrol, the vehicle suddenly veered off the road and crashed into the guardrail.

The impact was particularly violent. Traffic police patrols from the Eboli sub-section and paramedics from 118 responded to the scene, providing first aid to the driver. The man's condition immediately appeared to be extremely serious.

The 54-year-old was rushed to the Santa Maria della Speranza hospital in Battipaglia, where doctors attempted to save him. Despite the medical staff's best efforts, the man's heart stopped beating shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, traffic along the A2 motorway has been severely affected. The affected section of the road has been partially narrowed to allow for surveys and safety operations, with inevitable delays and traffic jams in the late afternoon.

The traffic police officers are working to precisely reconstruct the dynamics of the crash and clarify the causes that led the car to leave the road and impact the guardrail.
