A thirty-one-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of crime by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of causing a serious traffic accident and then fleeing abroad with his family. The arrest warrant was executed on November 24, 2025, upon the suspect's return to Italy, where he is currently being held in the Naples-Poggioreale prison.

According to investigators' reconstruction, on November 16, 2025, the man, driving a BMW, allegedly traveled along state highway 7/quater, near the municipality of Villa Literno, and violently collided with another vehicle. After the impact, the driver of the BMW fled the scene without stopping or providing assistance to the occupants of the struck car.

The accident resulted in a dramatic death: a 61-year-old woman died instantly, while the other three people in the rear-ended car were seriously injured. The three injured remain in very serious condition and are being treated in various hospitals in Campania.

The investigation was immediately launched by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office and handed over to the judicial police of the Campania and Basilicata Highway Police Department. The investigations allowed them to quickly identify the alleged perpetrator of the accident, who had the BMW registered to a temporary front man.

According to the documents, in the hours immediately following the accident, while his identity had not yet been confirmed, the thirty-one-year-old left Italy with his wife and children, boarding a flight abroad. This factor, according to the judicial authorities, played a role in determining whether he was at risk of absconding.

Subsequent investigative efforts gathered serious evidence against the man regarding his alleged involvement in the fatal event. Based on this evidence, the Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant, which was executed on November 24th upon the suspect's arrival at an Italian airport, before his transfer to the Naples-Poggioreale prison.

On November 27, 2025, the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Naples, finding that there were serious grounds for suspects and agreeing with the prosecution's assessment, confirmed the arrest and ordered the thirty-one-year-old to be held in prison. The suspect's position will now be examined by the judicial authorities in the subsequent phases of the criminal proceedings.

This is a very serious and unacceptable situation, but I can't understand how anyone could run away without considering the consequences of their actions. Let's hope justice takes its course and the victims receive help.
