Ischia - From a complaint to a multi-pronged investigation. It all began with a mother's report: someone had stolen her son's e-bike by forcing the chain that secured it in front of the high school. A seemingly ordinary incident, but it was enough to trigger an investigation by the Carabinieri of the Ischia station.
Thanks to analysis of video surveillance footage from the area, officers quickly identified the alleged perpetrator: a 45-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement. The man was located shortly thereafter, but the bike was missing.
The trail leads to a buyer and a suspicious warehouse
The investigations allowed the vehicle to be traced to a 68-year-old who had recently purchased it, paying the 45-year-old a sum far from its true market value.

The ghost workshop on Via De Luca
Continuing their investigations, the Carabinieri discovered a veritable cache of vehicles and materials of dubious origin, hidden in a shed on Via De Luca. Inside, an illegal workshop transformed into a "mechanical graveyard": 177 scooter and car batteries, numerous spare parts, frames, and 19 e-bikes.
The warehouse has been seized, while investigations continue to identify the vehicles' rightful owners and unravel the stolen goods network that appears to have developed on the island.
In recent months, the island of Ischia has seen a rise in thefts of increasingly popular and expensive e-bikes. The case of the illegal repair shop discovered by the Carabinieri could be an important step towards curbing this phenomenon and returning the stolen bikes to their rightful owners.
