Naples– "I demand justice, even years from now. I feel within me the love, determination, and values that my father instilled in me and in our family."
With a broken but firm voice, Sharon Scarpati remembers her father Aniello, the police officer who died on the night of November 1st in a tragic accident in Torre del Greco. An SUV hit the patrol car in which the assistant chief coordinator was traveling while on duty. There was nothing that could be done for him.
Interviewed on the program Ore 14 on Rai 2, hosted by Milo Infante, the young woman shared all her grief with the television: "I'm paralyzed. Dad and I complemented each other, I'll always carry him with me. He always told me he was proud to be a servant of the state." Then she remembered their last night together, before Aniello left for yet another shift: "It was Halloween night, he was getting ready to go to work. He told me 'be careful,' and then 'I hope this night passes quickly and nothing happens.'"
Words that today sound like a portent.

On Wednesday morning, from 7:00 a.m., it will still be possible to pay homage to the coffin before the funeral, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the ADI Evangelical Church on Via Frà Gregorio Carafa, in the Neapolitan capital.
Assistant Chief Coordinator Aniello Scarpati fell while carrying out his duty, a symbol of his total dedication to his work and to the State he had proudly chosen to serve.
The pain and dignity of the family
This morning, the Scarpati family received a visit from the Prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, accompanied by local police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza officials.
A gesture of institutional closeness that Sharon welcomed with gratitude: "I ask the State for justice, this State that is already helping us so much."
Prefect Di Bari described the Scarpati family as "an example of tremendous dignity and inner strength, mingled with pain and suffering. A family capable of breathing even through the most excruciating pain," he added, "because it is founded on great values. But for pain to not be sterile, we must transform it into concrete actions and testimonies."
"The Police was his redemption"
Speaking further about her father, Sharon recalled how for him, wearing the uniform wasn't just a job: "Dad always said he was proud to be a servant of the state. For him, the police force was a form of personal redemption. He was dedicated to his work and loved what he did."
And then a loving thought: Dad has sown in us so many things that perhaps we're not yet ready to handle. But every value of his, every teaching of his, is already ripe within us."

This article is very sad, but it's important to remember the commitment of those who work for security. I feel sorry for the family and hope they will find justice, as Sharon says. Their dedication is admirable.
