In Naples, the countdown to Christmas is underway with lights and inaugurations, as the city prepares to don its most glittering attire. But behind the festive atmosphere, taxi drivers are protesting, denouncing the lack of minimum conditions for regular employment.
According to the Taxi Sector's Basic Committee, the city's mobility situation is now collapsing: "We are already trapped in constant traffic jams caused by endless construction sites and road closures without clear planning.
This means a very difficult Christmas for us," explain the operators, who point the finger at the lack of an adequate traffic plan and the failure to activate the ZTLs.

While the city administration showcases new light displays, taxi drivers speak of a city "gripping to a halt just when it needs to function most." They warn: any difficulty finding a taxi during the holidays cannot be blamed on their profession.
"The responsibility lies with political choices that make it impossible to operate under normal conditions," they say.
The Committee rejects any attack on the sector and calls for immediate action from Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Transport Councilor Edoardo Cosenza. "We apologize in advance to residents and taxi users for the inconvenience the administration will cause with its traffic management," the statement concludes. A Christmas of lights, therefore, but also—and above all—of tension on the roads.
