Salerno - A violent wave of severe weather has hit the Salerno area, turning an autumn day into a veritable emergency. The heart of the crisis is Sapri, on the Gulf of Policastro, where a "water bomb" dumped a huge amount of rain in just a few hours, wreaking havoc on the city and forcing the mayor to close all schools for safety reasons.
Emergency in Sapri
The most dramatic situation is on Via Kennedy, an area already known for its vulnerability. Despite the hydrogeological risk mitigation work completed in recent months, the street has become a raging river, with water invading not only the roadways but also homes and lower floors.
The Civil Protection Department is working tirelessly to monitor the situation and assist residents, while traffic in much of the city is paralyzed, evoking the nightmares of past floods.

Discomfort in Cilento and the Moio case
But the disruption wasn't limited to the Gulf of Policastro. Cilento also had to contend with the fury of the storm. Between Ascea and Velia, a tornado uprooted two towering eucalyptus trees, which fell onto the roadway, completely blocking traffic and requiring the immediate intervention of municipal maintenance crews.
The only bright spot in a worrisome picture comes from Moio di Agropoli. The area, devastated by flooding in 2022, has withstood the impact of heavy rains thanks to recent cleanup and maintenance of the canals and waterways.
This preventative intervention worked, containing the critical issues and demonstrating the importance of protecting the environment. Meanwhile, the entire Salerno area remains on high alert, with authorities preparing for possible further waves of severe weather in the coming hours.
